Vocal coaching

Technique first, confidence after.

I have been teaching singing for over ten years, to all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through to performers preparing for drama school auditions and professional work. Some of my students are local to Bromley, some are on the other side of the world.

Lessons cover breath, tone, range and control, and then the harder part: learning to use your voice in front of other people without apologising for it. For students working towards graded exams I prepare for both ABRSM and MTB syllabuses.

I am Vocal Health first aid trained, which matters more than it sounds. A voice that is pushed badly for a year is a voice you spend three years repairing.

Adjudicating

Fair marking, and feedback worth keeping.

I adjudicate competitions and festivals across the country and I travel widely to do it. My marking is consistent and my feedback is specific: a performer should leave knowing what they did well, what to work on next and why, not just where they placed.

Having worked as a casting professional, an agent and a principal as well as a performer, I can talk to young people about what the industry actually asks for, which is usually the part they most want to hear.

Workshops & teacher training

Twenty years of industry knowledge, in a morning.

For theatre schools, performing arts colleges, and teachers who want the industry half of the picture rather than the performing half.

How agencies really work

What an agent looks for, what representation does and does not do, and how a young performer and their family should approach it. The session I am asked for most.

Self-tape workshops

Self-tapes are now most performers' first audition. Framing, sound, eyelines, slating and how to give a casting director something watchable in the first four seconds.

Musical theatre workshops

Singing, acting through song and audition repertoire, run as a practical session with the whole group on their feet.

If your school needs something that is not on this list, ask. Most of the work I do is built around a specific group and what they are heading towards.

Still a performer, given the chance.

Cabaret and musical theatre sets for events and functions. Musicals are my absolute favourite, though I am also known for a bit of rock and pop when the room wants it.

I have performed cabaret in Madeira and Spain, on the Mamma Mia tour, in pantomime and on board engagements, and the set is built around the event rather than the other way round.

Every side of the table.

I trained at Italia Conti and I have spent more than eighteen years in the performing arts industry: as a performer, a vocal coach, a performing arts school principal, a producer, a director, a casting professional, an author, and in theatre PR and marketing.

In 2018 I founded KTTA, a boutique talent agency for young performers, which I still run. In 2027 I open The Future Performer, weekly musical theatre classes in Bromley for six to sixteen year olds.

I also wrote The Future Performer, a handbook for parents, because the same questions kept arriving from families who had been given confident advice by people with something to sell.
